"Innocent"? The plan was to try to guilt someone by telling them someone they know was dying, possibly to intentionally guilt-trip them into being nicer, or possibly to say that it was all her fault. That seems pretty viciously manipulative from the start to me...

haa haa... I know the feeling. Doing edits and the like get you down closer to the characters and dialogue than the casual reader.
