I appreciate how Buront is presented as a character with flaws as well as virtues, how the other characters start out not liking him, and how naturally they start warming up to him as they come to understand him and accept his quirks. I also laugh when I see them adopt some of his quirks.

But I'm a little annoyed whenever they say "he/Knights are on another level". Another level from WHOM? The Touhou caste are so impressive themselves that Buront shouldn't be THAT impressive, especially given his inability to fly or use any danmaku.

    Don't overrate the Touhou casts.

Although I think Touhou character's powerlevels tend to be blown out of proportion as well, Reimu effectively saying "Oh my! Our ancient magicians of great power, reality breaking monsters, and gods are no match for the power of KNIGHTS!" bugs me as well.

Though to be honest, the whole concept of this comic bugs me. Though it's definitely pretty to look at, the fact that an original fandom character falls into Gensokyo and starts upstaging many of it's characters while gaining the affection of others just reeks of faggotry. It's the kind of stuff that get's people lynched in other fandoms.

The only thing the Touhou cast really has is the game breaking absurdity of some of their abilities. Danmaku is usually just magic meant to be more showy than effective or dangerous.

This. Though some, like Yuuka and the vampires (not 100% sure on that one), are also REALLY fucking powerful in physical terms as well. In general, danmaku serves as a way to level the playing field. Because some abilities, like Yukari's and Flan's, are just completely game breaking. Speaking of the Sister of the Devil, wonder when she'll show up.

A lot of the knight-aggrandizing that goes on is a big inside joke about Buront himself: lines like "knights are on a completely different level" and "I'm humble, so even if you praise me it won't go to my head" are taken straight from Buront's rambling forum posts. Watching Gensokyo fall under "Burontism" is part of the gag- turning an obvious forum troll into a Bill Brasky-type character is an underhanded way of pointing out how ridiculous he is.

For a more in-story explanation of Buront's strength, he's a level-capped min-maxed character who is famous throughout Vana'diel- in other words, a hero. He should at least put up a good fight.

Which means all the above discussions are pointless.

Nah, it's always fun to talk about power levels.

    of course, ninja.
when chapter 4.5 starts, you ll know the reason why buront hates ninja so much.

Honestly, I think part of it is them humoring him in jest because of his contradictory boasting/acting humble and another part of it is them commenting on just how useful Buront can be despite his being an occasional dumbass. He knows how to reach people with words instead of violence (real rarity there in Gensokyo), he can fight physical battles (which a lot of the group suck at save maybe Aya), and he can purify the taint created by the Gluttony sword. He's surprisingly versatile.

Also, the Touhou girls get overrated a lot. Most of them aren't much beyond their hax and danmaku (which isn't being used here as they are somehow forced to fight under RPG-esque rules instead of the usual spellcard duels; remember Buront said this wasn't a shoot-'em-up in the first chapter).

The vampires, Meiling, Yuuka, Byakuren, and the oni are the only ones who are really confirmed as being physically powerful (Kanako being a war goddess is fanon and canon has nothing that suggests that she or Suwako are as physically strong as the likes of Yuugi or Yuuka). Fairies like Cirno are outright stated to be weaker than normal humans and easily overpowered physically. Everybody else is essentially a glorified squishy mage/archer with some hax or another (with some notable exceptions like Aya).

This is the real reason Yorihime defeated them in SSiB. She was a genuine warrior on top of having powerful hax of her own so it was a simple matter of countering their tricks with the appropriate god/goddess then closing in. In FF terms she'd be a knight/summoner, like some deranged fusion/lovechild of Septhiroth and Terra.

    He's proud of his humility.

No matter how you look at it, Buront-san holds the key to this incident...
Knights really are on a completely different level.
    Over here.
    what happened to her?
She'd been wielding Dark Power only yesterday.
I think her defeat at Buront-san's hands is the cause.
Buront-san's natural Light attribute must have the ability to purify Dark Power.
    I learned that firsthand.
    So you've come, Hakurei priestess.
    About Meiling...
So in other words, even if we should get enveloped in the Gluttony Sword's cheap power,
there's a way to get rid of it.
    Not at all.
I am humble, so even when praised it doesn't go to my head.
There's a passageway that goes through the base of the clock tower.
From there we can go up to Remi's new throne room.
    Okay.
    And...
