  • 月曜日のたわわ その466 『胸部爆裂ボーンボインボーン』

    今週は流行りもの(大好き)から
    Source: https://twitter.com/Strangestone/status/1749265640651665806

Tawawa on Monday 466 "Thoracic Explosion Boom Boingbom"

The title, transliterated as Kyoubu Bakuhatsu Bon Boinbon, is a parody of Bang Brave Bang Bravern's Japanese title, 勇気爆発バーンブレイバーン (Yuuki Bakuhatsu Baan Bureibaan).

This week's topic is from (what I love in) the current craze.

I'd venture a guess that Himura Kiseki was inspired by Bang Brave Bang Bravern, a currently-airing series that harkens back to classic super robot shows like Gaogaigar. :D

Or he's referencing Minerva from Manzinger, the robot that popularized the boob missile.

Aphrodite A (also from Mazinger Z) is the first one with boob missiles. IIRC Minerva X is a sentient robot rather than a piloted mecha.

In any case, what I'm saying is that the artist probably did a super robot theme for this week's Tawawa because of the nostalgia brought about by Bravern.

It helps that this post's title "Kyoubu Bakuretsu Bon Boing Bon" seems to be a play on Yuuki Bakuhatsu Bang Bravern.

Does that mean I should rethink how I translated the image title?

Probably. I propose one of the following options.

    1. Thoracic Explosion Boom Boingbom, a more or less literal translation of the Japanese title. Compare the parodied anime's own title translating to "Courage Explosion, Burn Bravern", which is what several English-language sites commenting on the show have used (presumably before the official English title was revealed/communicated to them).

    2. Boom Boing Boom Boingbom, emulating the parodied anime's official dubbed title "Bang Brave Bang Bravern" instead.

For context, ボーン (bōn) is used as an onomatopoeia for "kaboom" and "boing", but is sometimes used as the transliteration of "bomb" instead of the typical one (ボム bomu).

I personaly prefer the former, but don't mind the latter since the first two words maintain the spirit of the Japanese kanji they correspond to.

On a completely different note, someone has pointed out to me that the mecha's design bears an uncanny resemblance to Ai-chan, especially if you compare with post #4789683.

Pity. I rather liked that wordplay, but I wasn't aware of Bravern, and somehow, the title of this strip didn't turn up any clues about it for me to make the connection.

I'd rather thought the sculpted hair was in her style.

Do we have a tag for that? Or does it fall under the "cosplay" tag?

The only flaw of the Oppai Missile System is that it only has two shots... often fired at the same time. But I faintly recall the Mazinger Angels version had reloads?
