I’ve actually tried to draw Rukia 4 times between this post and the last one. I didn’t like any of them enough to share. I tend to scrutinize pictures of her more than the other girls I draw. There’s probably two reasons for that.
1) Bleach is the manga that I’ve spent the most time reading throughout my life and Tite Kubo’s style is one of my favorites, so I’m always aware of the massive difference between how Rukia *should* look compared to how I draw her.
2) Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had a huge crush on Rukia, so I want to draw her well 😅. She’s one of those characters who is primarily attractive to me because of her personality, rather than just the way she looks. I started reading Bleach when I was a really young kid, so I almost think of her and the early cast how I would friends, rather than just characters.
I really resented the fact that Rukia stopped being as plot-prominent after getting arrested. I also much prefer the plot structure of “punk kids cutting class to fight vengeful spirits” over that of “ghost Dragon Ball Z battles in purgatory”, so I like the earlier volumes more for that reason as well. Still, the series stayed solid throughout and had an especially powerful ending.
