When a jedi choses their stone that fits into the center of the lightsaber they pick one that is attuned to their sense of the force. This is why red is the color of choice for most Dark Jedi and sith. The dark side of the force is more attuned to the red crystals. While a light side jedi is more attuned to a blue, green or yellow crystal. Thats not to say a Sith can't be attuned to purple or blue though.
Actually, color is not related to alignment. The reason Red is traditionally associated with Sith/Dark Jedi is that the primary source of lightsaber crystals for the Sith is red.
comment #56803 So.. it's not a means to easily differentiate between good guys and bad guys on screen then? So why do bad guys laser guns tend to fire a different colour?
comment #56796 He hadn't had the need/time/opportunity to make a new one so was still using his old one.
I love the fact that that should be the lightsaber Old Ben "Obi Wan" Kenobi gives Luke: the one that slaughtered the Jedi temple. He picks it up after the Mustafar deul in Sith.
comment #56803 comment #56763 comment #52964 NO you are ALL wrong! Blade color DOES have to do with alignment in the Jedi tradition blade color also has to do with rank: Blue-padawan learner, Green-jedi master, Yellow-jedi sentinel (yes it does exist), purple-black jedi(joke)
In the sith the reason why there is only one color is because in the sith tradition there really is no ranking system or hierarchy. only master and apprentice and since the sith don't really care for or really respect rank other than the rank of "shit hes stronger than me" then they dont need something that outwardly differentiates the strong from the weak. Plus red lightsabers look more evil. comment #56796 the reason for that is yes sith can use any color they wish. they just chose red 'cause its eviler looking and more intimidating which is what they're all about. comment #56809 now about your question about blaster and laser fire color. The "bad guys" as you call them dont fire different colored lasers. the storm troopers and the rebel soldiers in the original series had the same color: red. Unless you mean the green fire from the Turbolaser towers on the death star and the Star Destroyers. here is the explanation why imperial lasers on ships are typicaly green and y rebel ships are red: Rebel ships are only armed usually with laser cannons and ion batteries along with cuncussion missile launchers and proton torpedo bays, whilst the standard armament for the weakest imperial vessel it turbolasers. Now lasers.....and TURBO lasers. turbo lasers fire green cause it is a higher concentration of energy and also turbolasers for the empire were developed by Kuat drive yards and their subsidiaries while the rebel lasers and their weaker immitation of turbolasers were developed by Incom corporation and private donors. now if you notice in the episode 1-3 series there is almost NO differentation between laser color between sides this is proof of my argument.
The Choice of Colour for a Lightsaber also veries with the Era. Around the time of the Jedi Civi War, Green was for Jedi Consulars, scholarly diplomats and negotiators, Blue was for Jedi Guardians, and Yellow was for the Sentinels. However Jedi have used Red Light Sabers in the Past, as well as Colours of Silver, Gold, and Even Black.
Anyway, this is clearly a Dark Side Tama-nee - look at the eye-color. That reptilian yellow shade is a clear give-away; it's most likely a direct reference to how Anakin's eyes changed to yellow after his fall in Revenge of the Sith.
Does that honestly count? I mean looking at her eyes in other pics they're normally like that anyway, though you could be right if you take it differently.
