The real reason he's so hated is because MHA attracted the normie anime fans, who hate everything about anime, teenage characters sexualizing other teenage characters most of all.

They only hate the more Otaku-oriented aspects of anime, which unlike popular belief is not some sort of "default" of what anime are. Now, I haven't seen much of MHA, but I think the reason why Mineta get so much flaks is that he is not a particularly cool character. Other perverts like Roshi, Jiraya or Sanji also have other things going on. Horikoshi should have established some hidden depths for Mineta early on.

I take it you haven't actually seen what I'm talking about, then.
While this is obviously a shit-post of sorts, BB's analysis of Mineta's character archetype is about as thorough and accurate as you can get. I am curious about BB's assertion that anime and hentai consumption go hand in hand these days, and that one's detestation of a character due to their behavior in certain genres of hentai (i.e. NTR) can carry over to the general fandom.
I think the School Days anime probably had the best twist on this particular archetype by bringing the "horny loser friend who totally won't ever get to bang my waifus" to its logical conclusion.
"Loser best friend character being a threat" except Mineta has literally been completely irrelevant for 95% of the series. He legitimately has nothing going for his character outside of being a pervert.
The shitpost analysis also completely ignores the female audience which is not insignificant for MHA.
This is why I personally dislike the guy; he's just a pervert who usually just takes up space on the rare occasion he does appear, and while I like MHA one of its biggest problems (at least from where I'm standing) is that its pacing and characterization really needs some work. 'Bakugou being a dumbass'/'Deku being a dumbass'/'Bakugou and Deku being dumbasses'/'Anyone being a dumbass other than Mineta' are the kind of humour I prefer. Hell, if some of the perviness was shifted to characters like Ida, Yuga or friggin' Shoto it'd be a lot funnier.
Anyway, I'd like two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, a large soda, and an avocado salad; I need to watch my weight.

Yea no man. this isn't some instance of "normies" ruining a medium by being overly offended, mineta is just that fucking disgusting. He's the cliche perverted character done to the extreme and that's all there is to him. There is no deep insight to him or some trauma that made him this way, he just a pervert and people are rightly disgusted by him

Not liking a character and literally wishing/fantasizing gruesome, detailed death on them are totally different things. The latter is what you see all over twitter in the MHA community. Coming from the exact same people that threw a fit when Hoshikori drew the character, whose hero costume is being naked, gasp NAKED!
I don’t really like Mineta all that much, either, but can we not pretend like MHA being mainstream popular didn't attract an unpleasant amount of unhinged toxicity, even by twitter standards?
Damn... while I don´t see Mineta as much of a "Sword of Damocles" as BB presented, I can totally understand the feeling behind it.
But If I were to choose a character who screamed "NTR ALERT !!" the second he entered the story (despite never going this way), it would be Sakurai Father in "Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out." With his hedonist/sleazy first appearance, he seemed to check all the boxes for it lol
Honestly, half the hate is because he plain sucks and the other half is that his power is so atrocious that him passing the UA Entrance Test detracts from the setting and from Shinsou's background.
I find it genuinely hard for Mineta to be seen as a threat in general, much less someone who could, uh, cuck someone, if I'm understanding this right. Then again, I find the entire culture for/against NTR to be completely incomprehensible.

NTR or not, he still is the designated "goblin rapist archetype" when drawn in arts and doujins. Like, just look at the majority of arts of his tags. It's either a group pic where he's just included for the sake of completion, or he's being a creep or outright rapist.
I don't feel him to be the threat as stated, given that these days most Isekais/power fantasies completely forgo "male best friend" archetype and just go with either sole male protag in a harem, or male protag in a harem with male bootlicker "friends", I hardly think Mineta represents the "pervy best friend archetype" that was prevalent in the 2000s. Dude's not even in the story enough to be Deku's best friend.
Regardless Mineta is a bad character. Not only in the unfunny, one dimensional character with stupid power way, but I'm disgusted with him the same way I'm disgusted with the rapist stereotype in stories like Goblin Slayer or SAO. Since while they both represent that sexual abusers are terrible, Goblin Slayer or SAO's own depiction of the rape scenes in angles meant to be titillating to viewers muddies its own "rapists must die" message since it becomes "rapists must die, but you enjoy watching them doing the act, right?"
For Mineta, he showed absolutely no signs of further depths or that he will grow out of this mentality, yet he is also unambiguously shown to be on the hero side seemingly without consequences beyond the occasional "girls get mad at him being a perv" joke scenes, a trope that itself has been way overused like since the dawn of anime. It muddies the show's own disapproval of Mineta's actions by letting him go scott-free while pretending what he does is supposed to be funny, that the audiences are supposed to enjoy him.
The hilarious part of the wall of text is that more than one fanfic writter has done a college grade study on why they don't like Mineta going around in circles with the same arguments, with lots of self congratulation on how they could fix him and build a great character.
Spoiler: They don't.
So the guy is hated by normies and hardcore fans too.
Genuinely, the only reason mineta isn't THE #1 anime character i hate the most in all of anime is because he at least barely appears, so overall, doesn't ruin the experience *that* much
Yeah, fandom is crazy people in the internet.I mean, their very cool people yeah, that mean.No it's just to safe, and its not fun anymore. Due to the FANDOM are terrible people.I am gonna watch it. Because of what they to the Author.
Count me in the "a lot of people also hate Mineta because he's just kind of badly-written and comes off as creepy, annoying and one-note as a result, and it's not always based on viewers being horny for the (underage!) female characters" camp.

Normies dont give a fuck about anime. They'll move on once anime fad blows over. Stop kissing up to them. You'll never be cool in their eyes.
