Google/Android had released their own brand of phone since January 2010, called "Nexus" (now called "Pixel"). So even for that time, it would make sense to have it being "iPhone vs Nexus".

Otherwise it's like writing "Apple vs Microsoft, Macintosh vs Alienware". Sure, Alienware runs Windows, but the hardware isn't part of Microsoft.
