According to the other drawings that this artist has done, it seems Youmu looks up to Sakuya more than anything.

=( -doesn't like that Sakuya's being portraid as the good guy doing bad deeds- But I guess you can't help it, since her Doujin personality is somewhat coldhearted.

From the character sheet, they sort of have a little sister/admired person relation. So my hunch is that Youmu is not told of her "death".

That, or being a good sportsman like Youmu, she respects the one who defeated her...

I wonder how they're going to have tea afterwards if sakuya stabs youmu in the stomach.

I've seen hundreds of dead and tens of dying people and was like "meh", but seeing a fictional, drawn character being *probably* killed off-screen makes me feel uncomfortable.

Medical profession?

Personal attachment matters a lot. People you've never met are people you have no attachment for, so you'd feel a lot less for their deaths. Youmu is a character you know, have read stories about for possibly years, and have formed an attachment to, so seeing her in danger makes you uncomfortable.

Of course, it takes a good artist -and writer, for that matter- to pull it of good. I say Kuroneko does just fine in here.

Dissecting room is my second home *insert mad scientist face with a surgical blade, creepy smile and empty eyes*.

I don't think it has to do that much with "attachment", but rather the fact Youmu just snapped out of the badass mode - and now, being the pitiful, clumsy young girl as before, the last thing she realizes is the knife drawing close, and only manages to give out one last terrified scream.

Death itself doesn't scare me, but the immense horror when someone suddenly realizes he's gonna die, definitely does. I've seen it before and the total loss of humanity or constraint is the thing I really fear about death. This page somehow managed to remind me of it.

I think that Amuro showed us this best when he was fighting ANY Mobile Armour in the series. "Some dude, little girl or giant robot giving you trouble? Just stab it in the face!"

As for Youmu here, since it's not her face, I believe she's just gonna respawn using an extra life.
