I find it a little funny how it looks like he made his artstyle … safer(?) for her.
Because the devs edited it quite a bit. It still looks a bit like his style but I don't understand why they edited it to the degree they did. They hired him to draw/design her because of the name connection, right? So why not make her look as Asanagi-like as possible? Maybe they just wanted the art to fit in more with the rest of the game, who knows. I think it's also worth noting her design is quite similar to post #5684239

I wish they'd be more careful about the artists they hire.
Careful in what way? They obviously knew what they were getting when they hired him. Asanagi himself acknowledges the changes on the version he uploaded, so clearly they discussed it with him, whatever reasons they had for making them.
It's not like any of the controversial hentai artists they've hired in the past hurt their image, so I'm not sure what they need to be careful about.

The difference is everyone knows asanagi, so it's more like controversial AND well known. Though I agree with Strobe Red, if you see his concept over final edit, the edit adds a lot of shading and detail enhancement. His art style in general looks too manga-ish and contrastive to most AL's art. So it's kinda killing two bird with one stone I guess?
His reputation proceeds him. Guilt by association and all that.
Because his reputation has totally damaged Azur Lane's. Can you stop complaining about things that aren't actually affecting anything, much less hurting anything?
Again, there's no way they didn't know what they were getting when they hired him. If they thought they needed to worry about it, they wouldn't be hiring well known, even infamous, hentai artists.
