    The open wheel car in the image is the 1958 Cooper Climax T43, mentioned in the comment. Also, yes, the "Cooper" is related to the John Cooper in Mini's John Cooper Works. He and his father, Charles started the Cooper Car Company together building race cars including dominate Mini Coopers in rally racing.
