You're right. This is set after the student with the pompadour helped out Josuke's mom when the car got stuck in the snow to the hospital when Josuke was very sick. When they drove off, he saw the guy's hair. So, since then, he wore his hair in a pompadour fashion to show gratitude to the student back then he considers his hero. Heart-Warming indeed. ^_^
