We have a large Touhou fanbase here(Huzzah) so you will more see Touhou work. If you can read jap you could check the pivix page

Oh, obviously artists shouldn't draw the things they like.
there's a good amount of original artwork on here, but most of it is fanart because thats what they want to draw. and for probaably at least some of them thats all they CAN draw. people good at drawing aren't necessarily going to be good at, say, character design or story writing, and won't have something to draw without having something to base it on

Not everyone can luck out at the Creativity Gene pool. There are lots of people with a tone of creativity but can't draw to save their lives. On the opposite hand, there are people that arent good with Original work but can Draw whatever the hell you ask them too.
Thats why some people resort to regular Written Fiction as opposed to drawing their own Doujins.
Which is also why some Doujin artist will forever be stuck at their 9 to 5 job while doing some Comike work on the side.
