One is the best shipgirl design in its entire game and the other is just some generic redhead.
I couldnt find it but if I remember someone on discord(BlueCord) made a sheet pointing out and explaining all the details that Acea4 added to Helena's design both in character, uniform and rigging.
You may not like Acea's style and thats ok and her Helena can be still called "generic" but she does her homework unlike most if not all AL official artists at this point.

Azur Lane has a lot of bad designs that have only been growing lately and I will be the first to call them out (like Niizuki having no references to her historical radar proficiency or Radford not being obsessed with ASW and let's not forget my rather personal hatred of Houston) but that doesn't mean all of them are bad. Hell, I doubt anyone could reasonably argue that Kantai Collection's versions of Shouhou and Z1 are better than Azur Lane's versions. The thing is, even a KC fanboy like me who doesn't think that any of KC's designs are "bad" per se had to admit that Azur Lane made a much more recognizable version of Helena than Kantai Collection the instant I compared them and as I dove deeper into AL Helena's design, it only got worse.
Of course, I was about to admit the same for Sheffield until I found out that the AL version has the gun safety standards of Alec Baldwin.
Their personalities are basically opposite, aren't they? KC Helena is pretty confident and proud of herself, while from what I understand AL Helena is on the timid side.

Well... a large part of AL Helena's character arc is her gaining confidence. I especially love the part where she takes the blackpill and becomes Sherlock Holmes.
