Well, the red string is a sort of childhood myth, where destined lovers meet by following a red string tied around their finger, or something to that effect.
The concept of the piece is that Alice is waiting with dissatisfaction, or less possibly that she is considering following the string instead of waiting for her TWUE WUV to find her.
