The race horse name "El Condor Pasa" is derived from the Peruvian song of the same name. Watanabe, back when he was a member of the soccer club of the Keio Gijuku school, had a senpai up to middle school that he respected who lived in Peru, expanded the interpretation of the name "mambo", which was part of the name of the horse's sire, to mean "South American music" and thus was given the name. This was not the first horse that Watanabe owned that he named "El Condor Pasa", however, but the first horse to be given the name was euthanized prior to its debut after suffering a broken leg.
