It's a costume change to match the remakes of the original games (note Red & Green's outfits); similarly, Gold and Crystal can be seen in Ethan and Lyra's digs, and Silver's hair matches Soul's.

Predictions for the HGSS Pokemon special manga is probably Crystal is gonna change her outfit to match Kotone as Blue changed her clothes to match Leaf when it came to the LeafGreen and FireRed arc.

What I find amusing is the time Red and Green switched starters (and ended up matching their names with the right starter colors to boot, hence the name of the FireRed/LeafGreen arc). The two of them could easily fit in the other's group. Red would be raring to attack the water group with the other three psychos while Green is just as chill as the other grass-users.
