Not really. The angle would put even a .22 round through both lungs like that. God only knows what a bigger round like a .357 would do.

The man with the rifle is at a huge disadvantage. At point blank like that it would be impossible to sight him if the guy with the pistol just ducks forward into his reach. A torso presents a much larger target. Even a quick feint in any direction could throw off the rifleman's aim without much difficulty.

i suspect that the man with the rifle is in that position simply because it looks cool. artistic license over practicality.
