Its magnetism is so strong that it is effectively bound with the earth itself?

Because then it would be overpowered in a big way. It's got good defenses, tons of resistances, and very high Special Attack. That x4 Ground weakness is mostly the only thing holding it back from being super overused like Scizor and Blissey.

But yeah, it doesn't make much sense thematically. Then again, how can aquatic Pokémon like Seaking fight on land? etc.
