Bring pierce/slash, focus one eye, use Ego to counter the other eye and then focus entirely on the broken eye socket once it's destroyed because with 1 eye gone pretty much all its attacks do minor SP and no HP damage so you can just send anyone to clash it away if it targets someone who has low SP at that point.

Gotten a lot better at refraction railway. Current record of turns is 125 (just 5 turns short of that really shiny banner) and I've managed to beat the toad in 7 turns rather than the usual 11 it takes me. The real biggest time sink are the inquisitors (minus Guido and Kromer). Edit: 116 turns! Woohoo!
