They should have gagged her, she could escape by chewing through the ropes on her neck. by that regard, they should have tied her arms too :B

or maybe the tided is at it's peak and she won't drown. maybe the only reason they put the wave in the shot is so we would know it was the ocean and not the dessert

As she is, the neck rope is tight enough to make it difficult to breathe, while the rising tide brings an element of fear. When the waves start breaking over her she'll have to close her eyes and hold her breath. When the tide rises over her, the log will lift off the blocks and free her.
