China is one of the top HAND TO HAND combatants in Gensokyo, after the Oni and probably ahead of weapon users like Momiji or Youmu. Since she has 'the ability to manipulate ki', she could also be an outstanding 'buffer' like Byakuren and might be able to increase her strength, speed, etc. drastically or pull off a mean Hadoken.
The only problem is that her DANMAKU stinks. It's a major issue when you consider that most Youkai specialize in crushing you with waves of bullets before you can get within arm's reach. Even sadder, spellcard rules don't seem to have any allowance for melee.

You know whats the most Ironic thing about Reimu's Spell card system? She made it so everyone had a "Fair" and "Even" chance against each other. Meira and Youmu are swordsman, Meiling is a pure melee combatant. And i'm sure Yuugi would tear up if she could get close too. in reality, her spell card system gives her the most advantage by default because shes the one that made it.
Bingo. Not that she did it without reason though, with the rules humans have a much higher chance of living through an encounter with a youkai, but without them, well... people die. The card system is her way of defying the "natural order" in doing so lets her be lazier, after all, if no one is going around offing humans left and right out of hunger or anger then she must be doing something right. Even if in doing so makes even the greatest of youkai look like fools. If an oni can crush mountains with ease, who in their right minds would want to get into close combat with someone who could make their heads into fine mist.

I dont think we should be throwing around the word "Unbeatable". Espeically when it comes to touhou(Around 1000 people would disagree with your statment). Also, in the PC-98 years, Reimu was far from unbeatable, she came close to dying alot of times. She learned from her mistakes and got better. My mine gripe with the danmaku system is that sadly, it feels like a shounen anime based around a game. Beyblade or Yugioh or something. At the end of the day, being good at Danmaku is like getting better at a sports game or something. I'm not saying ZUN has to make the series all dark and "Serious business". it just felt like there was more danger in the past than now is all. I'd totally love it if in the next game, the antognist actually said "Rules? Fuck your rules" and it forces everyone to fight for real.

You're thinking of Fantasy Seal: Fantasy Heaven. Reimu gained the nickname HAX since she is invulnerable during the card and fires seeking waves of bullets very very fast.

If it wasn't just for play (with time limit), no one could beat her with any method.

Reimu is invincible is canon. Let the 1000 people claim I'm wrong, ZUN disagrees. The only reason she's not completely untouchable all the time is because, first and foremost, there would be no point to the games otherwise, and second is thanks to the timelimits imposed on spellcards. Without spellcard rules, Reimu could never be defeated.
Goddammit. These Touhou related comments are getting annoying, (it also doesn't help that 90% of the comments are from Touhou pictures). It's always either:
1. Claiming how undefeatable the Touhou cast is, and can win any battle, etc. 2. Any picture with Flandre, it will be suggested to either the already subjective "Disgustingly Adorable" or "Nice Knowing You" pools. 3. Any personalities that have been exaggerated by fanon ie. Yuuka. 4. Suggesting stupid tags/pools, even if it's a joke. 5. PADs.

That's assuming she can keep it active forever, which I personally doubt. Being phased out of reality also means being phased out of the atmosphere, leaving Reimu "holding her breath" so to speak while Fantasy Heaven is active. She may also be free from the clutches of death, but odds are her body doesn't know it. It'll likely start to think that Reimu's suffocating after a while and if so eventually override her mind like a Veto. This would leave Reimu vulnerible again, if only for a second or two.
There's still some ways around this, like taking some of the surrounding air with her, but these are only temporary measures. Unless Reimu can phase out a refill without re-entering reality herself or making a hole in the Plot Armor for others to hit her at, the invincibility of Fantasy Heaven cannot be permanent.
Since Meiling isn't strong enough to be a Dragon or even a half-dragon, and since she seems so human, I think she is the child of martial artists who became youkai through training and effort, just as Patchouli is the child of magicians who became youkai through study and effort.

Sure she's seen as lower end, but a buddy streaming a lunatic game showed that she was no joke on Lunatic, and I heard similar from other EoSD players, sure her patterns on normal may be a bit easy... but she also has the idea of calling in back up.

I read somewhere that the spell card rules were made in order to make it easy for youkai to make incidents and for Reimu to defeat them. It was also because it made a way of fighting and settling disputes without any bodily harm (i.e. not killing each other with broken powers). Being that there are powerful youkai and gods that live in Gensokyo, it would be relatively easy for them to murder everyone. And because youkai and gods are long lived, they tend to get bored. So the spell card rules enabled to make incidents when they felt bored with no major concequences.
Which is all said and true. Just so no one takes my previous comments out of context. I in no way "HATE" the way touhou is now. Its the direction ZUN wanted to take with his series and i wouldnt be here if i thought "Lulz it sucked". I still read all the canon material and such as well.
My only complaint is that with the current system in place, it just feels less "real" in compairison to the PC-98 days before the "Rules" were in place. Again, going back to my "Shounen Anime" cliche'. Or as Reimu/Marisa put it, "Business as Usual". For instance, in DBZ, you just couldnt take death seriously anymore(or anything really) since the dragon balls became the "Hax balls". Heck, by the final season, even the characters themselves acknowledge it. Or heck, Inuyasha. Oh whats this? Naraku got killed? *yawn* Ok, thats like the 1000th time we killed him. So, same time next week Naraku?

Dragons are an extremely common mythological creature and already existed in touhou lore. It was only a matter of time before one made a full appearance in touhou.
This picture would only really be HiH if Meiling herself was revealed to be a dragon.
