I actually believe that depending on what version you get Scarlet or Violet, Sada or Turo survive and leave Arven and their parent behind.
Both are terrible parents either way. One is the workaholic who doesn't talk to their kid for years, and the other is the one who divorced the workaholic exactly for this reason, yet chose not to take Arven with them.
Parenting in Pokemon universe is barely existent, otherwise 10 year olds wouldn't leave the house looking for adventures in the wild full of predators (not exclusively to food chain terms), while the mother has affairs with the professor who also sent his child at care out. Who left children at charge of gyms? I take it there's a capitalist system built around capturing monsters, so they don't have to worry about getting food or any kind of adult aid (like traveling, housing or medical expenses). That also means irresponsible parents put their infants in child labour too early so they don't have to care about them.
Just like any child/teenage fantasy, parents don't exist so they can make their own rules while also ignoring any bad consequences as plot convenient as possible.
