That scene was absolutely meant to be creepy.

I saw on TV Tropes (as one is wont to do) that apparently the ages of Suletta and Ericht before and after the time skip doesn’t match up.

So I’m calling it now: Aerial is pulling an Evangelion by holding Ericht’s soul, and Suletta is some sort of vessel/clone à la Rei.
