Turn A is supposed the one series the binds the first 20 years of Gundam together. The artist probably wanted to show the link between the UC core fighters and the core fighter from Turn A.

According to OFFICIAL word on the subject, Turn A Gundam occurs 3000 years after the original UC Gundam.
