The Rule of Funny is admittedly in play here, but he actually does something like this in the game. His fifth S. Link event is about him taking her to a sweets shop (instead of Hagakure or the gyuudon shop as usual) despite not liking them at all, because he thought she would like it. And that's when they were just friends, so given his personality, I can see him reacting like this after they start going out. Either way though, it's not like he would've given up meat altogether. Just when eating out with Hamuko.

i like how koromaru is just there with akihiko on the first couple of panels.
