    As a bit of a note, i heard from somewhere that Cat replaces Rabbit in the Japanese derivative of the Chinese Zodiac system.

    It's a common charm item sold at temples in Japanese new year celebrations. Not sure what it means exactly, though.

    It's called hamaya, according to Wikipedia (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Shinto) it's a "symbolic arrow for the fight against evil and bad luck".
