Such heartbreaking news, I told to my self to not to cry yet here I am.
Thank you for made my childhood days full of beautiful colors with your wonderful cards which is forever I kept, games and anime.
Rest in peace, your work was truly inspirational.

Takahasi truly was the King of Games of Manga. He never lost heart with his characters and truly loved his fans. You will be missed as you not only gave us a great game...but a fantastic adventure!

And apparently his body was found after it was washed up. Makes you wonder how things like this can even happen to someone this high profile.

Alas, rest in peace and thank you for creating such a massive part of anime and gaming history.

As grim as this is, this shows the importance of having another person with you when doing activities, even if it's seemingly harmless.

Rest well, Mr. Takahashi. Your creations has brought joy and happiness to many across the world.

I know this is a bit late, but it has been confirmed by the US Navy that Takahashi died after he assisted the US Navy personnel in a rescue of three people (including children) who were caught in a riptide.

He died a hero.
