Oh sure, because inspiring a rebel uprising by force of personality alone isn't worth putting on your resume. Humans didn't even know they could pilot ganmen until Kamina came along and started kicking ass and hamming things up.
It's dubious if that can be considered a pairing at all... I don't think Kittan could ever evoke the same passion and love in Yoko. In all- she just owes him and that's it. If it makes you feel beter, those are the the characters relations as officially seen: Pre time-skip: Yoko<-(Love returned 10x over)♥->Kamina (10倍返しの恋) Post time-skip: Yoko<-(Love)->Kamina Kittan<-(Rivals)->Kamina Kittan-(Love?)-Yoko You can interpret it as you whish, but Yoko had more than one occasion to kiss him- and she refused them both. Looks like she has Kamina stamped all over her heart.
Why is it so hard for most anime fans to understand that people can fall in love again after someone they cared about died and not be a whore. :/ I can honestly say I did wish Gainax went with the original plan, though, of having her fall in love with a teacher that wouldnt have died if only for the sake of her as a character not having to go through that again. But to me at least I think she had feelings for Kittan or at the very least wanted the chance at a future with someone.
