I don't know if you are supposed to try grab people like that since they might pull you under while panicking; as long as you can throw the life preserver it'd probably work...but there might be other reasons why it's not doable like CPR and stuff.

Bruh, just try to close one of your eyes. At most it is just 1/3 or 1/4 of your total vision if you lose an eye. And normally you would close one eye to aim anyway. Why do you think many sniper characters has a helmet with just one eye? Just like how a gun has 1 scope and not 2 scopes for 2 eyes.
