One editor has added 'corn' --- which I presume is the American definition of maize ( a sadly over-estimated food if one is not a duck ), rather than what everyone else calls 'corn' ---- but I see no cobs.

"Corn" in American English can refer to the kernels/maize, whether or not they're still on a cob. If the kernels are still on the cob, it's called "corn on the cob."
