Actually the commentary is referring to how comments about supposed "whitewashing" by an American user forced the artist to take down the fanart. Latinos were not happy about it and started attacking the former with the #ShutUpGringo2022 hashtag (it even became trending topic for days) in defense of the artist.

Yeah seems like the usual thing that happens on Twitter every now and then (remember the artist that got attacked for drawing a personified Knuckles as white?) I understand Spanish so I got that it was referring to one of those types of situations, but I didn't see this one in particular play out so I wasn't sure of the entire context on that aspect.

Unless this piece was made specifically in reference to that fact, which I can't find anything suggesting it was, it's not even present in the linked article, a song from the movie topping the charts doesn't qualify this for Current Events. Otherwise every single Encanto post would qualify. The art needs to reference a current event, not just be related to one.

This art itself has nothing to do with the uproar that occurred on twitter, simply one person said that the artist whitewashed when in fact it was not, several English speakers hated him for it- I saw everything that happened and I know perfectly Spanish because I'm latin.

Twitter has become even more toxic than I remember.
