But you're forgetting the genre. Wholesome as it is, it's still about a sexy elf girl. Even if that character has been established, decades have passed. And here, we got a character in a plague mask, necessitating an unmasking. Unmaskings are for characters we don't know the appearance of.
So even if the mentor is alluded to, "that person" is probably a formal apprentice...and daughter.
