Do people really pronounce potato as po-tah-toh? I feel like I've only ever heard it the other way.
if your mother tongue isn't English and you've only seen the word in books, possibly. It's the same case with first time seeing "Colonel" and having never heard a native pronounce it.
Was wondering about this one. Perhaps the reason is this? Why home grown tomatoes are SO MUCH BETTER Personally eat a ton of them, but only after they've been shoved in a food dehydrator for a day or two.
I often failed to notice Bae's odd pronunciation, probably because I'm a native Japanese speaker. In Japanese, we call tomato as "to-ma-to" (トマト) and acacia as "akashia" (アカシア).
By the way, potato is called "po-te-to" (ポテト) in Japanese.

I think it was revealed that Bae is natively chinese before she moved to australia. which might explain a lot of her behaviors. Like how utterly terrified she is of horror games with ghosts in them and some of her weirder linguistic oddities aside from being from Australia.

More likely her parents are chinese and moved to Australia before she was born.
