Why is Eddie in the films a bumbling idiot but in the fanart he's the hottest man-alien duo alive.
Because movies are products, and they MUST sell. So they are made to reach the greatest possible range of audience. So the movie must be a bit comedic and not too violent or serious so the teenage market is still in said range.
Not that I can offer any alternative to the movie industry. They need money to survive, as far as I know.
