I feel you. Evangelion was so bad not even their creators could make sense from it. They had to retell the same story more than four times (and still doesn't make sense I bet). It made me question where the f**k I was spending my time watching on and forgot about anime for a long time. Impressionable teenagers praise it a lot for what it really is. Asuka and maybe Rei are their safe good points, but everything else... well shounen in general is this bad even today.
