  • Nod Scorpion Tank Sketches

Here are some design explorations for the new Nod Scorpion Tank for the next C&C game. Just kidding..It's fan art... I only dream about it sometimes to design stuff for the next command and conquer game. This design form factor is something that I revisit often, I took a lot of risc and perhaps I went too crazy with the shapes and colors, It was great experimenting around and I definitely will find time to do more sketches followed up with a final design! The original is from C&C3 and it was designed by one of my favourite concept designers, Feng Zhu.

You know, looking back. Even though tanks in games like the Tiberium series and Red Alert look awesome, they would make absolutely awful tanks that are so covered in shell traps and weak points that it's amazing that they don't just fall apart whenever someone points a gun at them.

They probably have some very advanced technologies to counter that....

Assuming they can somehow engineer around physics and geometry I'm not sure why they bother with armor at all. If they can somehow find ways to stop shell traps from being weaknesses, they could probably just forget strapping armor to their tanks at all and make their tanks lighter and faster instead. And also fill it with windows or cover it with cameras to improve the crew's situational awareness.

The gameplay and story segregation made it kinda hard to apply the "realism" anyway. Compare to other RTS games-

Funny the "advance tech" reason didn't save the Mechs in Tiberium Sun from getting scrapped and GDI return in using the good old threads but had the Juggernaught as the Artillery. Nod scrapped the use of mobile underground units thanks to the Tiberium (lol) that made underground tunneling unfeasible.

    Meanwhile Warhammer 40k...

*Takes hilariously obsolete WWI tank design and upscales it to the size of a city block. Or four city blocks*

Shot traps haven't really been a thing since the late cold war era, when velocities and SABOT rounds made deflections irrelevant.
