Even if the bad guys have to win once in a while, I can't say I enjoyed this result. Mokou and Keine get screwed over for three quarters of the match and lose spectacularly.
Also, are we supposed to forgive Kaguya for being so underhanded because she decides to shake Mokou's hand or is this another PR move?
Even if its an RP move Tewi are there giving Keine medical attention immediately so I tip my hat to them for that much. And for some reason I think the hand shake is out of respect that she didn't stay wimpy
Huh? Kaguya worked hard for her win, it's not like she actually cheated or anything. She just knew how to play the crowd, which is something all performers need to know anyways.
Kaguya earned her win in the end, fair and square. You guys forgave Mokou for going to wimpy and back, Kaguya went from sneaky to fair pretty easily too you know?
zigzag said: Bah. I was hoping she'd accidentally kill Mokou, thus earning a disqualification and some booing from the crowd.
Here's hoping Kaguya gets her ass creamed in the first few minutes of her next round.
Or at least something that would result in her not being the crowd's little darling. Now the most likely thing is that Mokou will accept the handshake and the crowd will respond something like "Well, that little crybaby isn't all bad" instead of the crowd learning Kaguya's not quite as good as she plays up.
Also, that seems very likely given that Keine was smacking around Kaguya quite handily.

I absolutely love this outcome.
There was very little cheating aside from Aya not calling the pin earlier, but that's just a result of playing the crowd (and that Aya sucks as a referee). I'd complain more about Mokou regressing mentally to a five year old, but I figure I said enough about that (even if I've been bitching and kvetching for a good portion of this match).
It occurs to me that this was more Eirin and Keine's match than anything. The both of them did vastly more work for their respective teams while until the end the other two were just kind of...there. Without Eirin Kaguya's pretty weak and gets beaten like a ragdoll and without Keine Mokou debases herself and cries like a little child.
Very true Eirin and Keine are the main of both teams. Also there was Tewi with the light in the eyes thing. Aside from that it was regular match. I think Kaguya's team wins over all just for the sake that Eirin could have beaten them both if she wasn't doing the whole make Kaguya the hero thing.
Yeah not a real bittersweet Victory for Kaguya and Eirin, i'm kinda dissapointed, but it leads for me hoping for Story Course B.
Them winning now, but later facing Shikieiki and Komachi, somehow the charade of Kaguya is revealed and after learning this Shikieki does some speech of fair wrestling and stuff and how she is dissapointed as Kaguya as as fellow Kinnikuman fan since, if she really wanted to be like Kinnikuman she should had won the crowd in the ring through real live charm and not some made up charm before the tournament, she should had known that even Kinnikuman had times of being wrongly despised by the crowd because of the enemy winning the crowd through lies and manipulation, or because of his goofy ways. Yet at the end he proved himself in the ring and prevailed.
All this before Shiki defeating her and making her learn an important lesson about true sportmanship and wrestler pride.

True, I don't think anyone can dispute that Eirin is the strongest of the four. Hell, I think I might have preferred a match like you said.

I'm not too savvy of Kinnikuman stuff, but I like your idea all the same. I find an odd enjoyment in the Yama lecturing people.
Well, everyone might not know this but Kaguya actually is a bit of an entertainer, she's not useless as many would like to believe.
Don't forget that while on earth, she would play the part of the beautiful princess and entertain guests back before she met Mokou. In Gensokyo, Kaguya held a few Lunar expositions at her home, telling stories to guests and the entire thing being a pretty big hit.
Kaguya knows how to entertain people and the power of words. Even without having made Mokou out as the "heel" character in their fight by using that handshake trick at the beginning of the fight she still would have been able to keep the crowd on her side most likely.
All in all, Keine would have been Mokou's only chance at getting some support from the crowd since she has a good standing in the village because otherwise, Mokou's personality definitly left her at a disadvantage in this kind of sport.

Well you can say that Kinnikuman in both his good and bad aspects, he was always honest on the ring, if he won the crowd he did it there and by being himself, if Kaguya really wanted to have his role, she should had followed the same way of being honest and not do the whole fakade of Heroine even before any march started, all for the sake of always having the crowd on her side. That's the basic "kinnikuman" info you may need to understand the critismn that some have with Kaguya (taking aside the Mokou fans).
Shiki properly lecturing this, not as the Enma, but as another Kinnikuman Fan, would be meaningful, since Kinnikuman is a honest fighter, regardless of his weirdo and goofy quirks, he will remain himself and try to make people like him for what he really is.
Mokou is the real winner here. She was able to finally realize just how important Keine is to her, and put her closest friend over her feud with Kaguya.
Kaguya won in the ring, but Mokou won in her heart. Cliche, I know, but it's good.
By the way, some of you are putting too much emphasis on the Kinnikuman aspect of this and are forgetting it's a Touhou take on the whole thing: they come with their own personalities and quirks too.
You also should look at this in a storytelling aspect. If Mokou/Keine won, what story is their next match going to have? Besides fighting Kaguya, Mokou had no other reason to enter, nobody else for any form of conflict or development to occur. Kaguya however, has plenty, such as the Team 9 members in the crowd, and a fellow Kinnikuman nut in Siki. I particularly like the notion of a Siki Vs. Kaguya match debating the points of what it means to be a real Kinnikuman fan.
Of course I'm watching this for the outfits. If I was watching this for the booking, the storytelling, the actual wrestling, or...anything else, really, I would have quit the instant Reimu and Remilia won.
Tema Shikigami vs. Team Underground has been the only watchable match so far (and it was a pretty damn good one to boot). The other three have been absolute travesties and an insult to the world of wrestling (not to mention yawn-inducingly predictable). And who are the fans supposed to hate from here on out? There are no heels left, credible or otherwise, and without someone to hate the thrill of a face victory is diminished.
Relying on the characters as they existed before this was written is a crappy way to set up future storylines anyway. A good writer not only could give Keine/Mokou purpose in later rounds, but would have done so a long time ago so as to not make the outcome of this match obvious.
well, heels there's still Kochiya's team. Suwako didn't win points with her performance at any time. Spitting on Yuka's face, using brass knuckles, etc.; if the crowd sees them in a different light, I'll be surprised.
Shiki-Komachi team is more likely to be on the good side. Flandre and Meiling may start like that... until the moment Flandre decides to have more fun that necessary.
Sakuya's team will be anything Remilia tells her to be, and as soon as it's shown Suika is entering instead of Koa, things won't get any prettier.
Marisa's team is unknown at the moment. It's the same situation with Mokou and Kaguya, they all know Marisa and her thieving ways. Besides, Mima told her something that freaked Marisa out, so who knows what plot is Orenji cooking.
And then, it may occur that Tenshi convinces Utsuho of entering in the next round regardless of the rules, like Yuugi and Orin.
Team Moriya were obvious faces with the way Yuuka acted the entire match, and none of the teams that got byes have done anything heelish (and if they did now it wouldn't have the same impact as a team that was heelish since the first round and went through to the finals).
so far im not glad with some results... wanted the servant team to do more dmg to remilia... a lot more --- i know sanae is a good girl but yuuka destroyed them... losing like that is worse than the end of death note t-t (yes i hate mikami for making light lose) --- And this... oh god this fight... keine/mokou should have won this... they deserved it... aya didnt gave the win away to them when they deserved it... just waited until lunar team won =/ sucks ---
What a terrible fucking fight. What makes wrestling awesome is watching an amazing displays of the human body and the outlandishness of it all. Keine and Mokou were doing an amazing job of it, especially displaying the heart of it all.
Eirin spent the entire match doing some lame pressure point technique that made her /so fucking boring/.
Although villains should win at times it was kinda bad that Keine and Mokou lost since they embodied what Kinnikuman's "origin" was most. Though Kaguya instantly realized that they never did won since she wanted to screw Mokou badly only for her never show it due to her concerns for Keine... So looks like Keine and Mokou still won despite it... Hehehehe....
I think my main issue with this fight was that it dragged on a little too long. Anyway, so far I'm thinking things are still going alright, since there's still potential(and a fair mix of faces and heels left).
And yeah, one of the reasons I keep reading is for the outfits. For a rough style that slightly approaches the border of super-deformed, somehow the ladies are all rather eye-pleasing.

Well if you consider that last win by Sanae and Suwako...people are pretty upset about that. And seeing another one like this...I've already been complaining a lot about these crappy wins too.

I'm a bit late to this one, but given the circumstances, I'd've thought it was obvious why Mokou broke down.
Every single person in the crowd was cheering for Eientei when they were fighting dirty (cheap tricks, corrupt referees), booing Mokou and Keine for gaining the advantage, and Keine was the one person cheering her on. Negative pressure causes different reactions for different people. In Mokou's case, where she's only got one friend in the building, and that friend is nowhere to be seen, being hated on by everyone is something she can't handle (especially since she's actually got someone who likes her - if it wasn't for that, it probably wouldn't be as bad), and she breaks down mentally as a result. Even if a few people in the crowd were cheering for her, the breakdown wouldn't have occurred. If it wasn't for Keine getting up and doing that whole bit that I can't describe easily off the top of my head, the match would've ended a LOT differently.
Spoiler'd to avoid annoying people who want to interpret stuff as they see fit.
Yeah...I can't give any props to Kaguya and Eirin. Especially when Kaguya deliberately provoked Mokou during the lottery in order to get the crowd against her.
In light of what's been happening in this series right now, I find this part hilarious in hindsight.
Something you have to doHow's Keine!?Even if she wasn't, Eirin's looking after her so she'll be ok.U....gh....Episode 297: Despite great reluctanceFrom the Artist's Pixiv pageShe's fine.*grind*It was an amazing match. And the crowd is going wild! They just keep screaming Kaguya's name!Oh! Kaguya now extends her hand to Mokou, who just regained consciousness!
