Wouldn't necessarily be impossible though. The subject has already appeared in anime before.

Not a foreign concept in the series, M.O.M.O. an organic android know as a realian was created to be able to bear children.

Not really. The game compendium in Xenosaga episode I mentioned how Realians were in essence androids.
Such fact was mentioned to correct a realian researcher that comments on how outdated is an android project when they already have realians.

I'm going to guess it had something to do with letting the days go by, letting the water hold you down.

...Anyway, key difference between Realians/androids is, I think, how they were constructed. Androids are actually mechanical, Realians are more like manufactured organic beings.

While they might ultimately serve the same purpose of servitude, at heart they are still pretty different, as the researcher quote you brought up was partly intended to highlight.

Realians are for most of the part grown bio-engineered human-like constructs with some machine parts (skeleton, CPU/brain etc) , where as a real android like Kos-Mos is by and large almost a completely mechanical construct (for giggles, compare her weight, almost 200 lbs, with other similar-sized humans/realians).

For what's it worth, I'd personally classify realians more as cyborgs than androids because of the biological aspect.

Fuck what you think, the creators state that realians are organic androids.

I think you are right, but for the wrong reasons. The creators of the series are not the creators, much less the owners, of our language. If the creators of the series introduce an element that fits existing and accepted definitions fo an android then it is an android, period. I don't care if the authors agree of if they loudly scream heresy everytime someone publically calls it that.

IMO, an android is an artificially created being that is expressly made to resembly the looks and demeamor of a naturally occuring species (usually human). It doesn't matter what technology is used for this, it could be mechanical, electronical, it could use quantum computers, transistors or vacuums tubes, it could be steam powered - or it could use organic components as its building blocks. Doesn't matter.

A cyborg is an existing, natural being that has been augmented with technology to some degree. How far this augmentation would need to go is debatable, though. There are people who draw the line so high that the original creature would have to be completely unrecognizable and there are those who draw it so low people with pacemakers would be qualified as cyborgs.

And then James Cameron would have his own interpretation. I tend to agree more with your idea than with the Terminator (tm), but where does one draw the line?

I'm going to sidetrack this whole conversation. There's still precedent for preggers androids.

    Evidence: Android 18 (DBZ)

And perhaps human society will determine the lines correctly when we get to point where we have androids, robots, cyborgs and all else.
Until we don't delve into the actual science, we will not have a need to draw the lines.

Yup. You're adding fuel to the discussion. Android 18 is called an android. Heck, it's her name.
Still, she was a human body that was altered by the doctor. That actually sounds like a cyborg. Ziggurat 8 in Xenosaga is a cyborg with a similar background.

We all will have our interpretations. We all are allowed to share.

And Kos-Mos cannot get pregnant, she does not have a womb. the X-Buster is where her womb should be.

I was just trying to avoid going into a long winded answer by just saying that the creators of the game have already ended this argument before it even started.

But KOS-MOS was outright stated to be made completely of metal parts. Therefore pregnancy does not compute.

No she wasn't, just that she completely artificial/inorganic and that ended when she regained her original body.
