You can see a statue of dog here near Mother Superior, sitting there exactly as the real one would do. I guess this implies the dogs are long gone, but at the same time are still there, part of it all, nevertheless.

Maybe they got adopted by someone else? Plus, I want to believe that one of the pups was actually a pet of blind girl (popopoka), even if their race is actually different from superior's dogs...
