I've noticed there's been an endless stream of shallow, nihilistic, pessimistic, dystopian works in literature, films, games and shows. It's become nauseating to me. Forgive my bluntness, but the creators of these dystopian works do not know what the central social problems are, why things are the way they are, or how to solve them. How can great art come from that? I can be mildly entertained by this stuff, but even people in the entertainment industry must be sick and tired of dystopian themes at this point.

The error is assuming such works should propose solutions, when such works tend to be nothing more then a reflection of today's issues which we still have not resolved. If the subject feels over done, it's because it still resonances strongly with many on their general feeling of today and where we're headed and in turn encourages authors and publishers to keep revisiting it.
