No, iirc, she's classified as CVL or CVE, cant remember. Also she get 4slots, something players wanted since her release. She's still slow, meaning that, in case you need a fast CVL, you put a boiler/turbin in the 4th slot (that is a 1 plane slot). However, she comes with juicy equips like a night personel. She cost a protocatapult and blueprint.

As far as I understand, her Mk II retrofit has buffed her quite strongly compared to her base configuration.
Technically a CVU as Mk.II, but she is still registered as normal CVL on the ship list panel and ship card. However, she gets extra classification as CVE due to having a natural ASW stat, which she keeps in Mk.II form.

Her remodel is essentially a reference to her sister Thetis Bay, who was converted into an amphibious assault ship (specifically a LPH). She's basically become one (in all but name), with the ability to launch aircraft/helicopters, perform ASW, carry/deploy landing crafts, etc. All of which LHAs were capable of doing.
Also, I believe CVUs were technically auxiliary ships that were mostly used for ferrying aircraft and supplies. Not sure if I would give her that designation.

No kidding.
Max HP: 38 -> 53
Armor: 39 -> 61
Firepower: 32 -> 55 (tied for second best among CVLs)
Anti-Air: 48 -> 67
ASW: 68 -> 76 (Plus she can equip Sonars)
Plane Count: 34 (16/12/6) -> 49 (24/20/4/1)
Evasion: 46 -> 62
She's still Slow and her latter two slots are pretty small, but she went from being a joke to an actually very viable ship. The landing craft are, as far as I can tell, unique among carriers and would make her a strong choice for any sortie that involved taking out installations.
