    The version I remember hearing was that Mel had a stalker. The problem with the manager was that they knew about it (from Mel), and encouraged her to ignore it and keep working despite the stress and anxiety it was causing her. When it finally became publicly known that her manager had neglected to help her or tell anyone, they were immediately fired, and the stalker was arrested after revealing their identity.

    Pretty sure Mel was the, or one of the, reasons for the "talents must be 18+" policy, as a number of HL's early talents were minors, and most of the problems seem to revolve around them almost exclusively.

    I think that's for the best. As times progress forward it's better to move away from the Idol policy of hiring underaged teenagers, nothing good can come from it.
