Actually it's based on that old fairy tale of some guy who dropped his axe into a lake and a fairy offered him one made of gold, and one of silver. It's one of those moral stories about honesty. The guy says it's the old normal axe.
Though I'm wondering, are the translation notes mixed up? She says silver on what look like the golden pair and gold on the silver.
