Overkill, since there's no way you can put the lid back when you're done.

there are easier ways to do that you know, the reason jars are hard to open is because they are vacuum sealed
1. use rubber gloves, or dishwashing gloves, gives your hands extra friction so it wont slip easily and wont irritate your skin
2. use a metal spoon to try to lift the lid open, if air is forced inside the jar this way, it will open up easily

I tap the edge of the lid, rotating as I go, against the counter. Eventually it deforms the lid enough air can leak in. I've been doing it for over a decade, and I've yet to break a jar.
