There are probably like three references here, but while I vaguely remember seeing similar scenes, I can't put a finger on them.

Edit: Twitter comments here were mostly along the lines of "Welp, looks like they're finally releasing the Gundam SEED (theatrical) film." Though in light of recent events announcing Gundam Seed Eclipse... does make it Hilarious/Harsher in Hindsight somewhat.
