Huh... was not expecting to see these old characters again. I also didn't realize that they were both from the same artist let alone the same world. Also is mister smooth been turned into a droid or is he just wearing some kind of life-support helmet/mask?

I imagine it's a Vader-like situation. He has to wear that helmet to keep himself safe from infections. Or he's just hideous and hides his nonface with it.
They do look mechanical, but we don't actually know the truth of their construction. They could still be supernatural but also an inorganic of some kind other than a droid.
Maybe it's some kind of cyber-biological mutation like the husks from Mass Effect. The girl could be infected with some kind of nanomachine plague or robotic soup, and when she bites down on someone it infects them and turns them into a sort of drone the girl enslaves as the host. The result looks robotic, but it is actually alive. The girl's jaws are calcified sinew with infested steel extensions. The guy's face plate is hardwired infested bone with cochlear implants added post-mortem. They're not human, but not anything that can be replicated with technology either.
That would be good monster for this kind of setting.

Considering how far in the future this probably is, having a biological nanite based disease could be the case. There are "proper" mechanical aspects; mechs, robots, suits of armor and then there are the more biological machinations, machines that affect things on a more cellular level. Makes one wonder what other things may have been infected by bio-mechanical mishaps?
You said you liked me too, didn't you!?
Then why am I the only one whose flipping face got ripped off!?
So I took a little liking to him and thought, "Hey, why not let him live?"
...Say, why didja let 'em off?
There wasn't a trace of fear about him even as he was looking at my face. Instead he had a defiant glare.
Mm‑hmmm?
That kid who barged in trying to help the skin-wearing droid.
