Based off the fact that I was able to find an original photograph for granada's cheesecake piece (post #546930), this was most likely rendered backwards.
First draw the rough shape. You don't have to color it too carefully.Here I laid down the color in a bit more detail, as you can see.I've shaded off the color I laid down before. At this stage, it already looks quite nice!Starting the detailing. Just roughly shade the shine on the cream and it'll look realistic. Throw in a bunch of sugar.It looks depressing.
I put a color like it in the background.
Add in a lot for the sponge portion.Furthermore, I put more into the drawing and am finished. Or, rather, give up.
