Kancolle's treatment of these two does kind of surprise me. Of the two actual ships, Yamato seems to hold a special place in the Japanese psyche that Musashi simply doesn't. Nobody ever made a Space Battleship Musashi. But in Kancolle, Musashi got a second remodel years before Yamato, on top of having a much lower lever for her initial remodel. Musashi's spent the last half a decade being one of the strongest ships in the game, with Yamato in her shadow (although Yamato is still very powerful) . And Musashi is portrayed as far more confident than Yamato, despite having seen even less combat.

It doesn't surprise me. KC was created partially on the premise of highlighting the various ships of the IJN and their stories. Very few people actually knew about ships other than say, Yukikaze and Yamato. And a lot of that did have to do with Space Battleship Yamato to begin with.
Today many young-middle aged Japanese now know of a much larger cross-section of ships, being at least peripherally aware of them if not more. Even if they don't play KC. And those who still do know many more that frankly would be totally obscure today.
On that note, it makes sense that KC will spend it's "currency" promoting Musashi first who was fairly unknown even domestically, probably one of the least prominent battleships in the public mind despite sharing the same class as Yamato. Yamato needs no favors from KC...the game can wait until more of Ten-go get Kai Ni I suspect.
