I only heard about Mizuryu Kei going full clown; it'd surprise me if that killed the whole thing off.
Was he the main artist though? Usually for big projects like this companies tend to to have more than one artist, or at the very least many of the more extensive drawings are done by assistances/other artist, like backgrounds, shading, coloring and inking, while the main artist works on the more important things like the main characters (which many times might just be rough sketches that is then filled in later by someone else). If he’s just the artist and that the story itself is written by a different author then to replace the art isn’t exactly too hard. It’ll probably still be jeering if art style suddenly shifted half way or there might be trouble if they continued to use his art specifically since he can claim creative copyright on style or something. But also there are certain cases where if the artist is just hired as an artist, although they would use their own style, they might be ask to draw a certain way that the company itself might ask for or it would be also edited/touched up to fit a certain criteria (you see that alot in things like doujin work with groups/circles, where the artist style is kept but it is also changed to fit the group/circles’ so when you search a certain artist’s previous work it might look very different from that specific work.)
I doubt that after spending so much time and money they would just so easily scrap everything and I doubt him leaving was anything but sudden. He probably broke contract weeks or even months prior cause if he was under contractual obligations he wouldn’t be able to just so easily leave, meaning that he would have to probably finish out certain projects before he can go as well as settle copyright issues.
Even normal companies you have to turn in a letter of resignation like ahead of time and even if he was fired, being an artist, there must be some sort of binding agreement and legal negotiation to go through first. Even for the vtubers themselves they got stuff like that. I wouldn’t be surprised if him nuking his entire portfolio of Hololive work might not be his choice or just out of spite but instead something company related, as he might be forced to rid of them to prevent any sort of official association if the whole ordeal really was that bad. This is actually more common than one might think since if he drew the artworks during his time working there, it might be subjected to copyright even if it is fanwork (the rule of fanwork itself is that it can definitely be pursued for legal reasons but usually isn’t since it isn’t a good look and/or too minor or troublesome for a company to go after such things but if its something like this, it is totally in their right and justified even).
So is hololive alt still on? I heard the there was drama with the twitter artist.
Wasn't he just the artist from the web manga? From what it looks like, holoALT might be a bit more than just that, so the project will probably move on without him.
Mizuryu Kei has done more damage to himself with how unprofessional he acted then he did to Cover/Hololive. Cover is and Hololive Alt is going to be fine.
