It's a reference to the white rabbit of Inaba, which might be Tewi herself. In the story a Rabbit wants to get from one island to another, so she tricks the sharks by saying she wants to see whose family is bigger. She has them line up and then hops across to count them, but when she gets to the other side she tells the sharks she tricked them. Enraged, they attack her and tear her skin off. The god Okuninushi helped her by having her bath in fresh water and roll in cat-tail pollen to replace her fur.
